About 'nutrition class'|Nutrition Class and saw the Nurse... and my doc too








Completing               a               nutrition               unit               in               elementary               school               can               be               a               great               way               to               enhance               a               health               curriculum               and               teach               students               about               taking               care               of               their               bodies.

However,               many               aspects               of               nutrition               can               be               too               advanced               for               elementary               school.

But               by               sticking               to               the               basics,               these               nutrition               activities               for               elementary               school               will               provide               a               fun               and               educational               experience               as               kids               learn               about               good               health               and               nutrition.

Complete               these               health               activities               for               elementary               school               as               a               group,               class,               grade,               or               even               school.

Healthy               Food               Posters               
               Encourage               each               student               to               create               a               poster               that               promotes               healthy               foods               and               eating               habits.

Large               pieces               of               paper               or               poster               board               work               well,               and               once               they're               handed               out,               students               can               complete               this               as               an               in-class               project               or               an               extended               homework               project.

Encourage               elementary               students               to               come               up               with               a               simple,               catchy               slogan               about               what               types               of               foods               we               should               eat               and               why               and               have               them               illustrate               their               concept.

The               posters               can               hang               in               the               classroom,               hallway,               or               other               prominent               area               of               the               school               to               educate               everyone.


               This               activity               teaches               health,               nutrition,               science,               language               arts,               and               art.
               Class               Cookbook               
               Bridge               the               gap               between               school               and               home               nutrition               by               creating               a               class               cookbook               with               your               students.

After               studying               a               nutrition               unit               for               elementary               students,               reinforce               the               concept               by               getting               each               student's               family               involved               as               well.

Have               each               student               bring               in               a               favorite               family               recipe               that               follows               the               nutritional               guidelines               you've               studied.

Depending               on               the               grade               you               teach,               students               can               include               specific               nutritional               information               or               even               describe               what               healthy               ingredients               are               included               and               how               the               recipe               follows               proper               nutrition.

To               enhance               this               nutrition               activity               for               elementary               students               even               more,               use               this               free               recipe               calculator               to               get               specific               nutritional               information               for               each               recipe               to               be               included               in               the               cookbook.

For               fourth               and               fifth               graders,               you               could               even               include               specific               criteria               their               recipes               must               meet               by               using               the               calculator,               like               3               grams               of               fiber               or               less               than               15               grams               of               sugar               per               serving.

Students               can               also               describe               any               family               traditions               behind               the               recipe.


               This               activity               teaches               health,               nutrition,               science,               language               arts,               and               social               studies.
               Grow               Vegetable               Plants               
               One               of               the               basic               concepts               of               a               unit               on               nutrition               for               elementary               students               is               learning               where               food               comes               from.

Depending               on               where               your               school               is               located,               many               students               may               not               know               that               the               origins               of               the               foods               they               eat               extend               far               beyond               the               grocery               store.

Make               the               lesson               of               how               foods               grow               concrete               by               growing               your               own               vegetables               in               your               classroom.

Students               can               either               each               grow               a               plant               to               eventually               take               home,               or               you               could               create               a               classroom               windowsill               garden               and               grow               a               small               variety               of               crops.

A               fun               garden               to               try               is               a               salsa               garden,               in               which               you               grow               crops               like               tomatoes,               onions,               peppers,               and               cilantro.

When               the               veggies               are               ripe,               your               class               can               make               their               own               salsa               to               try,               reinforcing               the               concept               of               farm               to               table               right               in               your               own               elementary               classroom.

While               this               activity               will               take               some               time,               it's               an               excellent               compliment               to               a               health               or               nutrition               until               for               elementary               students.


               This               activity               teaches               health,               nutrition,               science,               math,               and               agriculture.
