Thea Doby 's blog ::CELEBRATING WELLNESS & WEIGHT LOSS!

When               it               comes               to               living               a               healthier               lifestyle,               one               must               include               finding               the               healthy               ideal               body               weight               in               their               list.

Most               often               than               not,               you               would               have               to               lose               a               pound               or               two,               perhaps               10               pounds,               for               you               to               get               to               your               ideal               body               weight.

In               my               personal               "healthy               lifestyle"               journey,               I               have               learned               a               thing               or               two               about               weight               loss;               the               most               important               thing               about               weight               loss               is               to               learn               how               to               recognize               a               good               versus               a               bad               weight               loss               practice.

1.

Set               a               Realistic               Weight               Loss               Goal
In               my               younger               years,               I               would               push               myself               to               the               limit               and               set               an               unrealistic               weight               loss               goal               in               front               of               me.

I               achieved               it,               but               at               the               expense               of               my               own               health.

My               weight               loss               goals               now               are               more               steady               and               realistic.

I               do               not               look               for               faster               results,               but               look               farther               into               long-term               health               benefits               that               I               could               get               from               it.
               2.

Avoid               Weight               Loss               Fads
Several               years               ago,               I               would               try               everything               and               anything               from               "Celebrity               Diet"               down               to               the               "cabbage               soup"               diet.

There               were               a               lot               of               weight               loss               fads               that               I               have               gotten               myself               into,               mostly               unsuccessful               and               hurtful               to               my               health.

Weight               loss               fads               will               never               go               away.

There               are               still               several               "exercise               in               a               bottle"               products               out               there               promising               rapid               weight               loss               results,               don't               do               it.

The               health               risks               and               unwanted               side               effects               are               definitely               not               worth               your               while.
               3.

Create               a               Food               Journal               or               Diary
A               great               way               to               remind               yourself               or               perhaps               motivate               you               of               your               new               found               healthier               lifestyle               is               your               personal               food               journal               or               diary.

It               doesn't               have               to               be               "word               for               word"               writing,               just               short               and               sweet               reminders               to               yourself               of               the               different               foods,               both               good               and               not-so-good               that               you               have               tried;               describing               the               emotions               you               have               felt               with               these               foods               could               help               you               overcome               any               patterns               of               "emotional"               eating,               too.
               4.

Smaller               Plates               Equal               Smaller               Portions
This               is               one               of               the               things               that               work               for               me.

By               using               a               smaller               plate,               I               have               learned               to               discipline               myself               in               eating               the               right               portion               every               time.

It               may               not               be               easy               at               first,               patience               is               the               key.
               5.

Getting               a               Scale
Recording               your               weight               loss               progress               may               be               impossible               if               you               don't               own               a               scale               in               the               first               place.

Get               one               and               weigh               yourself               at               the               same               time               weekly               or               monthly               to               see               how               you               are               doing.

A               scale               don't               lie,               so,               if               you               have               not               been               watching               what               you               eat               lately,               it               will               show.
               6.

Make               an               Announcement
Hold               yourself               accountable               with               your               weight               loss               goals               by               telling               your               friends               about               your               journey.

After               all,               you               will               be               more               inspired               and               motivated               to               lose               weight               if               you               have               frequent               reminders               around               you.

Go               ahead,               post               it               on               your               Facebook               wall,               you               will               be               surprised               how               many               of               your               Facebook               friends               are               looking               into               losing               a               pound               or               two               themselves.
               7.

Find               a               Weight               Loss               Partner
               Find               a               weight               loss               partner.

Personally,               I               have               my               husband's               support.

He               and               I               make               it               a               point               to               make               healthier               homemade               meals               instead               of               getting               fast               food               all               the               time               like               we               used               to.

We               both               love               to               walk               and               play               tennis,               too.

So,               finding               a               weight               loss               partner               must               be               based               on               sharing               the               same               interests               in               order               to               make               it               work.
               8.

Be               Mindful               of               Your               Caloric               Intake
One               thing               that               I               did               not               get               for               a               long               time               is               watching               my               caloric               intake.

All               the               while               I               thought               that               skipping               my               meals               all               day               and               waiting               to               eat               at               dinner               time               is               healthier               than               eating               3               regular               meals               or               6               small               meals               a               day.

Don't               just               starve               yourself               nor               skip               meals.

Follow               your               recommended               daily               caloric               intake.

In               doing               so,               you               can               better               accomplish               your               goals,               be               it               to               maintain               your               current               weight               or               lose               some.
               9.

Add               some               fiber               in               your               diet.

I               have               recently               added               fiber               in               my               diet               and               I               am               so               glad               I               did.

Once               or               twice               a               day,               I               enjoy               a               bowl               of               the               old-fashioned               oatmeal.

It               helps               my               metabolism               and               keeps               me               full               and               satisfied,               too.
               10.

Keep               in               touch               with               your               primary               care               physician               at               least               once               a               year.

Before               you               try               any               exercise               programs               or               decide               to               lose               weight,               it               is               very               important               to               consult               with               your               primary               care               physician               first.

There               is               no               such               thing               as               a               "one               size               fits               all"               workout               program.

Remember,               your               goal               is               to               lose               weight               safely               for               health               reasons,               and               not               just               for               vanity.
               To               your               wellness!
